Biographical history
Born in Melbourne, Wearne emerged out of the Monash University poetry readings 1967-69. His published works reflect the new directions afforded by the New Poetry movement. Wearne's published works include "Public Relations" (1972), "New Devil, New Parish" (1976). In 1986 Wearne published his much acclaimed "The Nightmarkets" for which he won The NBC Banjo Award and the Australian Literature Society's Gold Medal. Wearne has been the Meanjin Poetry Editor and continues to write. In 1997 he published "Kicking in Danger" and in 2001 the epic verse novel "The Lovemakers".
