Administrative history
In 1907 FEDFA registered under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904 (Commonwealth). The Union comprised seven branches of which the Queensland Branch comprised the second largest by the late 1980s. The Queensland Branch registered under The Industrial Arbitration Act of 1916 (Queensland) as the Federated Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Association of Australasia Queensland Branch Union of Employees on 2 Mar 1917.. The Union drew a significant component of its membership from engine drivers, especially within the mining industry. In 1989 the Ahern government called a Commission of Inquiry into alleged financial irregularities. In May 1990 the Commission found against several Union officials. It now trades as the Federated Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Association of Queensland, Union of Employees.
