Biographical history

Edith Marion Everett was born on 18 August 1868 in Middlesex , England. She and her family arrived in Australia in 1890. She married widower Isaiah Lahey on 5 April 1904. She wrote a piece of prose on travel, poetry and a history of the Lahey family. Edith Lahey posed for the large central figure, standing in an Athena-like robe, of the tympanum for the Brisbane City Hall. She died on 28 July 1957.

Edith Lahey, a friend of Daphne Mayo's, was the step-aunt to Vida Lahey and frequently corresponded with Daphne Mayo. Most of her letters are addressed from 'Erica', 349 Cavendish Road, Coorparoo. Of the 97 letters, 28 are dated 23 June 1943 to 22 July 1957. The final letter was written by 'Colin, the scribe' on Edith's behalf.
