Administrative history

Alexander Brown Wilson was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1857. In 1864 his family emigrated to Brisbane. He established his own architectural practice in Brisbane in 1884, and was joined by his architect-engineer son, Ronald Martin Wilson in 1920. After Alexander Wilson's retirement in 1928, Ronald Wilson continued the practice until 1955. He in turn was joined by his son, Blair M. Wilson, who had graduated from the University of Queensland. The Wilson firm is continued by Alexander Wilson's great-grandson, Hamilton Blair Wilson.

After Alexander Wilson's retirement in 1928, Ronald Wilson continued the practice until 1955. He in turn was joined by his son, Blair M. Wilson, who had graduated from the University of Queensland. The Wilson firm is continued by Alexander Wilson's great-grandson, Hamilton Blair Wilson.

Biographical history

Alfred Banks was a Brisbane-based architect operating in the late 19th century. Alfred Banks worked with the architect Victor Carandini at the Queensland Building Land Society and they became partners in 1885. They operated as Banks and Carandini from 1886 to 1887. They worked on the designs of stables, fences, villas and three houses until their partnership dissolved. Banks and Carandini are most well known the design of the residential home Moana, also known and Moana Flats, in the Brisbane suburb of New Farm. Moana was constructed in 1886 and is believed to be the last surviving example of their domestic architecture. In 2000, Moana was listed as a Local Heritage Place by the Brisbane City Council.

Architectural plans of residential and commercial buildings. Also includes bills of quantities, client files, specification files, job files, miscellaneous papers of A.B. Wilson and R.M. Wilson, and card index of plans by plan numbers, job numbers, and client names. Includes several plans by Alfred Banks.
Also includes rare poster "Victoria Skating Rink, Sandgate". Includes plan of 'University site, St. Lucia. Proposed design', by R.W.J. Hawken, 1929.
Professor Hawken and Alexander Wilson were members of a committee established in 1921 to determine a site for the University of Queensland.
