History

United Protestant Association (Queensland Branch) (1936-?).
Publicists - W.D. Mcllwraith, C. Ranger.
Notes: The Association was formed in reaction to pressure for state aid to denominational schools by the Catholic Taxpayers' Association (formed 1936). This and other sectarian issues were the principal issues in the 1938 Queensland elections. The Association was prevented by its constitution from aligning with any political party but members of the Association were involved in the Protestant Labour Party (formed in 1937) and some P.L.P. candidates claimed to be backed by the U.P.A.
