Unemployed Workers' Union (Brisbane Branch) (1978-). Formerly the Unemployed Persons Association (1977-1978).
Objectives - To represent the unemployed, to increase awareness of unemployment by exposing government schemes for the unemployed, by helping unemployed people join in the struggle against the policy of using unemployment as a solution to inflation, by uniting workers and the unemployed and by providing information and advice to people on unemployment (and other) benefits.
Publicists - Refer to the annual Official Trades Union Directory (Trades and Labor Council of Queensland).
Notes: An Unemployed Workers' Movement existed in the 1930's. In December 1977 it was reformed as the Unemployed Persons Association. The present name was adopted in March 1978. The U.W.U. is associated with the Trades and Labor Council.
