History
The Theatre Royal, was first built by Barnett Levey in 1827 at 428 George Street, Sydney, behind his Royal Hotel. The first official performances were in 1832. The original theatre burnt down in 1840, and the theatre was not rebuilt again until 1875, with the first night on 11 December under the management of Samuel Lazer. It was located where the current Theatre Royal is situated at the MLC Centre, 108 King Street. Later, J.C. Williamson and partners managed the theatre until 1913.
