History

Students for Democratic Action (1966). Became Society for Democratic Action.
Objectives - To work against nuclear war, the Vietnam war, conscription, world poverty and the unwarranted interference of the State. Emphasized participatory democracy and the superiority of morality over material values. Believed that democratic freedom had to be fought for and, once achieved, had to be protected.
Publicists - Jim Cleary, Bob Gaines, Jane Gaines, Gwynn Guyatt, Brian Laver, Chuck Long, Mike O'Neill, Gail Salmon, Mitch Thompson.
Notes: The Group was formed by people involved in the Vietnam Action Committee. The change of name in November 1966 reflected a desire to involve people other than students.
