History

Formed by a group of students at the University of Sydney. Charles Perkins was the inaugural president. Their mission was to raise awareness for the marginalisation of Aboriginal peoples in New South Wales. Hired a bus and organised a publicised 'Freedom Ride' that began in Sydney and passed through numerous regional missions and towns, such as Moree and Walgett, before circling back to Sydney. SAFA carried out further visits to country towns throughout the remainder of the year but by 1966 the group had wound down.
