History

Located between Castlereagh and Elizabeth Streets, Sydney, near King Street. The theatre opened in 1924 and was a venue for presenting both stage and screen productions either separately or in conjunction. The first film shown at the theatre was Cecil B. De Mille's silent movie "The Ten Commandments" when audiences were treated to a sound track played by a live orchestra. The Fryer Library holds a souvenir program for this event on November 22, 1924. The final film shown was War and Peace and the theatre was closed in 1965.
