History

Michael Potter was an Irish born Catholic priest who ministered in the Warwick area, Diocese of Toowoomba, from 1887 to 1944. His papers reflect his family background, that of a large, close family and the role he played as a late 19th, early 20th century parish priest in a rural area of Queensland. His correspondence with his elder sisters, Rev Mother Mary Patrick, and Sister Mary Michael, both of All Hallows Convent, Brisbane, and his fellow priests gives some indication of the growth of Catholic education in Queensland, the number of new church buildings, parish halls, schools, and the establishment of the Christian Brothers in Warwick.
