History

The Queensland branch of People for Nuclear Disarmament was formed on 31 July 1983 in Brisbane. It described itself as a broadly based community organisation. They believed that the threat of nuclear war is a global problem in which Australia is directly involved. They campaigned for Australia to take a stand against nuclear disarmament. The Queensland branch sought to unite all Queenslanders who wanted an end to the arms race and who believed that Australia can and should play an active role in nuclear disarmament. The organisation formed smaller local groups and organised rallies, protests, events and petitions. They took an active role in the 1984 Australian nuclear disarmament declaration campaign organised by the national branch of People for Nuclear Disarmament. The organisation ceased to exist in 1994 due to a decline in membership.
