History
Thomas Meredith Parnell was born in 1925, the the son of Thomas Parnell (1881-1948) and Hermiene Parnell (nee Ulrich, 1885-1956). His parents were among the first lecturers at the newly established University of Queensland, his father in Physics and his mother in Modern Languages. His mother was the first woman to hold the position of a lecturer at UQ. Thomas Meredith Parnell studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland. On 20 May 1950 he married Elspa Haylock. In 1952 Parnell joined the staff of UQ. He was appointed Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1974. Thomas Meredith Parnell died on 24 May 2012.
