Dr John Stanton Davis (JSD) Mellick is an educator, historian, literary critic and biographer, and was formerly a senior lecturer in English language and literature at the University of Queensland. He has written widely, most notably on author Henry Kingsley. He was an early President of the Friends of Fryer and received a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2005 for service to the community and to Australian cultural studies.
