History

George Marchant (the philanthropist, cordial and soft drink manufacturer) was born on 25 November 1857 at Brasted, Kent, England. He arrived in Brisbane on 9 June 1874. On 1 September 1877 he married Mary Jane Dwyer. Marchant bought the ginger beer manufacturing business of John R. Palmer. He built his own factory in 1886 in Sprint Hill, Brisbane. Marchant invented and patented a bottling machine. Marchant died from heart disease on 5 September 1941.
