History
Sir Evan Mackenzie was born in Edinburgh. In 1842 he and his brother, Colin, took up a station at Kilcoy, near Brisbane. In 1844 he bought land at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane, where he started a boiling-down works. In 1845, Mackenzie succeeded to his father's title of baronet, and in 1846 he retired to Scotland. After he left Queensland, rumours about a mass poisoning of Aboriginals on Kilcoy during his tenure began to circulate.
