History

Claude Jones was born on 28 November 1915 in Brisbane to Catherine (or Catharina) Jones (née Englart) and John Jones. He was a member of the Communist Party of Australia (CPA) from 1936 to 1974, holding leadership positions in both Queensland and New South Wales. He served as Queensland president of the CPA for a period and was the party's candidate for Brisbane in the 1941 state election. Jones later ran unsuccessfully as a CPA candidate in the 1953 New South Wales state election and in the 1954 and 1955 federal elections in Queensland. He died in 1998.
