Two complete drafts, each 170 leaves, typescript and carbon typescript, in burgundy cardboard covers, Apr 1964 to May 1965. An extract from this unpublished novel 'Contacts' was published in Under Twenty-five: An Anthology, edited by Anne O'Donovan, Jayne Sanderson and Shane Porteous. Brisbane: Jacaranda Press, 1966. 34-36. The extract is a heavily edited version of leaves 99-117 of the drafts in this subseries. Newspaper cuttings of reviews of this extract are also in this subseries.

Initially called 'Life and death in the south side pavilion', 'Dancing on the water' is an unpublished screenplay written by Peter Carey and Ray Lawrence. It is based on the short story Life and death in the south side pavilion by Peter Carey first published in short story collection, The fat man in history (1974). Comprises 8 typescript drafts.

Five drafts with four titles, which begins 'My mother and father are dead'. Footer from the final draft has the date 7/5/92 and the title 'Dear Mum & Dad', 10 leaves. Other titles are: 'Child's play', no footer on printout, 9 leaves, undated; 'An expatriate', no footer on printout, 10 leaves, undated; 'An expatriate', no footer on printout, with handwritten emendations, 10 leaves, undated; 'The successful five year old', footer in printout has the title 'Melb. 'Gleniffer via Bellingen' by Peter Carey describes the house he and Margot Hutchenson built in The Promised Land, about eight kilometres out of Bellingen. The house was designed by Richard Leplastier. There are two typescript drafts of the article, with emendations, which Carey appears to have written when selling the house. Both drafts are on yellow paper, 4 leaves, undated.
