Newspaper cuttings, 1976 to 1981 and undated

One folder has newspaper cuttings from 1978 to 1979 with the original folder marked "Uranium". Also included in this folder is undated newspaper cuttings. The second folder contains cuttings from 1976 to 1981 featuring articles about statements made by Kath Walker regarding the Aboriginal cause.

Newspaper cuttings, 1961 to 1972

This file consists of three items:

  1. A Collins Australian Diary for 1959 with 11 pages of newspaper cuttings regarding Kath Walker's activities in promoting Aboriginal rights (rest of diary is empty) from 1961 - 1972.
  2. A photograph album (half full) of newspaper cuttings regarding Kath Walker's activities in promoting Aboriginal rights, with one article about her son Vivian Walker (1971). Articles are either dated 1966 or 1971
  3. One photograph album with six pages of newspaper cuttings regarding Oodgeroo's activities in promoting Aboriginal rights, 1961 - 1967

North Stradbroke Island research material

This file includes correspondence, The Stradbroke Island Management Organisation Constitution (which included a membership form at the end and had the poem Ballad of the Bridge by Kath Walker attached); newsletter; flyer Is a bridge to Stradbroke necessary (with S.I.M.O. membership form); and reports.

Feedback on Shadow sister [motion picture]

Letters and cards from students who saw the film Shadow sister. Shadow sister is a film biography of Aboriginal poet Kath Walker, produced and directed by Frank Heimans, photographed by Geoff Burton and produced by Cinetel Productions. According to the flyer for the film "This film looks intimately at Kath Walker the person, and gives us a glimpse of how the Australian aborigines love and respect all natural aspects of their native land".

'Unpublished playscripts and stories'

The original folder had two titles 'Unpublished playscripts and stories'. Some scripts have multiple copies, some have drafts, and some have annotations. It contains the following scripts: 'Bora. Initiation' (3 drafts), 'Civilised savages: one act play', 'Old Mick' (3 drafts, one incomplete), 'Playabout corroboree', 'Tail of platypus' (3 drafts), 'Tea party. Review.' (2 drafts), and 'You can't trust no one no how'. The last item is a photocopied typescript (8 leaves) with 'Tape excerpt (verbatim)' written across the top of every page. The 'interviewee' is an Australian Aboriginal giving a commentary on the 'Police' ; 'What is an Aboriginal?'; and 'Discrimination'.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are warned that this resource mentions cultural ceremony and Bora initiation. It may contain images, transcripts or names of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples now deceased. It may also contain historically and culturally sensitive words, terms, and descriptions.

This folder contains:
2 play scripts. -- 'Manhunt' (handwritten in a notebook, dated 1968) and 'The play that never was' (cover title), 'Patience required for the problemental pass' (title on contents page) (stapled typescript booklet);
1 script for a radio program titled 'An Aboriginal Legend' which was part of the Australian Broadcasting Commission (Queensland Branch) series 'Grade 3 Social Studies' aired on 6 Apr 1973;
1 script for a film broadcast of 'Stradbroke dreamtime' starring Kath Walker, produced by Val Hartigan - includes a shooting schedule, timings and footage estimates (13 leaves; handwritten annotations);
