Photocopy of typescript draft of "Coconuts and tearooms: six years in New Britain, New Guinea in the 1930's : the Colonial days"(Auckland, N.Z.: The author, 1993.) Accompanied by photocopies of photographs, some used in the publication, and a listing of captions.

Bound album, 28 x 25 x 6 cm, of 167 black and white photographs. Appears to be a record of Appel's voyage while Home Secretary in the Queensland Government Steamer "Otter" in 1914 which went as far north as Daru on the coast of south-western Papua. Title embossed on cover of album. Several pages are without photographs. Photographs have been pasted to the mid-weight card and none have captioning. Photographs include: Baron Falls; a lighthouse (possibly Booby Island Light); possibly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from Northern Queensland and Papuan New Guinea peoples; and places from his travels.

This file is comprised of a folder of 101 negatives, 11 x 7 cm. Images of mostly landscapes, with some of ships, workers at a building site, local indigenous people, what appears to be a WWII memorial. Original box marked 'New Guinea' and appeared to have the name 'Reg Sly' in pencil on the back.

This collection includes publications and slides, black and white photographs, 16mm film, taken by Kathleen Vellacott-Jones. The bulk of photographs were taken between 1954 and 1968.
