Brisbane

Poster, designed as a street guide for students attending the Sixth Australian Architecture Students Conference in Brisbane from 20 to 27 May in 1967. The guide was put together by Doug McKay with the help of Don Watson. It has 57 architectural places to see when in Brisbane for the conference. The 57 sites are numbered on the front of the poster, with some grouped by location. The front is a street map of Brisbane city. On the reverse are the names of the buildings (grouped by location) with pictures of some of these buildings. On the reverse there is incorrect or fake information about some of the locations.

This collection comprises Don Watson’s various contributions to architecture in Queensland as a designer, historian, teacher and advocate. It includes papers relating to his work in creating the Queensland Architectural Archive within the Fryer Library; his work while with the University of Queensland Department of Architecture especially the lunch time lecture programs; the 'Architecture as a Community Art' public lecture program; and his work with Queensland University of Technology as a lecturer.

Student trip to the Northern Territory, 1979

This file pertains to a proposed student trip to the Northern Territory in August 1979 to investigate three sites: Arltunga, Hermansburg and Phillip Creek Mission. Included is correspondence, costings, preparation plans and three b&w photographs of the sites.

World Environment Day event

Following requests to various people to nominate their favourite Brisbane places, a display was held of the responses, leading to a discussion attended by many respondents, including Brisbane’s Lord Mayor. This file includes correspondence, and list of people and their nominated place.

University of Queensland Department of Architecture papers

Donald Watson was employed as a lecturer at the University of Queensland Department of Architecture from 1979 to 1989. He lectured in design and supervised history theses and electives. He was responsible for the Architecture Department's public programs, including lunch-time lectures and exhibitions. Included in this series are: course notes for Bachelor of Design Studies (B.Des.St.); lunch time lectures research and planning; student projects; exhibition catalogues; and correspondence.

Projects review was published by the University of Queensland, Department of Architecture to highlight the projects of students from each year level (1-5); and staff and postgraduate research.

Architecture is a Community Art public lecture program

As an extension of the University of Queensland Department of Architecture's public programs in 1983 to 1985, Don Watson organised a fortnightly public lecture program called Architecture is a Community Art. The program had local, interstate and international speakers and attracted large audiences. These lecturers were conducted at the Community Arts Centre, 109 Edward Street Brisbane. This series includes correspondence, notes, biographical information for some of the presenters, financial data, posters and flyers for the lectures.
