A dinner invitation, 1986 Jan 22
Manuscript of a poem by John Tranter written for David and Rebecca Carter inviting them to dinner.
Tranter, John, 1943-
Unpublished eleven page typescript poem in homage to the Australian landscape and nation, text on rectos only. Quarto, cloth backed folder with manuscript title label (vertical crease); inscribed by author on verso of front cover 'For dear Jim -- a little "Welcome Home" tribute from his friend Isabelle Moresby. 20.1.46', with later bookplate of Melbourne bibliophile Jeff Prentice; first page of typescript signed by Moresby; the poem has several corrections made by the author.
This patriotic poem (spoiler: it contains the word 'girt') was apparently originally to be titled Birthright, and attributed to 'Kirroo', but that heading, which appeared on all but the first page of text, has in each case been almost obscured beneath a blank piece of paper laid on by the author. -- Publisher's blurb
