Views of Cairns-Herberton Railways, etc., Queensland

Album of twelve sepia photographs of views of North Queensland including Cairns, Herberton, Barron George, Barron Falls, Hambledon and railways in the area. Title handwritten inside album. Album is undated. A handwritten list of captions and supplied item numbers has been inserted prior to the title page. Most photographs appear to be around the construction of the railway to Herberton which began in Cairns in 1886. It finished in Ravenshoe in 1916.

Written on the inside cover the album, presumably by the seller: "In. [Inventory] 5033. Royal Qto. Oblong Purple toned. 10 [shillings]". These type of photographs were often taken by the Queensland Government.

Handwritten letter from David Malouf answering three questions that Yvonne Smith had asked: how did An Imaginary Life first come to be published; how were Fly Away Peter and Child's Play published; and in writing Johnno ( what was the possible influence of Peter Paul Ruben's painting The Return of the Peasants from the Fields. As the questions were not included in Malouf's response, Smith has provided a transcript of the handwritten letter with the questions included. Typed transcript of the Diary of David Malouf written while writing Child's Play, Fly Away Peter, and short stories in January / February 1981. The handwritten version of this transcript was shared with Malouf over lunch and he shared information about the content which Smith has included as footnotes.

Alison Hoddinott's book, Blessed city : the letters of Gwen Harwood to Thomas Riddell January to September 1943 was awarded the Age Book of the Year in 1990.

The collection has 474 architectural drawings by Graeme Thiedeke from his time working as a student in the 1960s, to his work in Canada, Mexico, Malayasia, United Arab Emirates and Australia. Thiedeke has provided details for most of these plans which includes the name of the client, the brief from the client and historical information about the building. There are supplementary documents to the jobs Graeme Thiedeke worked on, which includes drawings, articles, presentation sets, architectural plans, photographs of architectural plans and photographs. Thiedeke has been writing while working as an architect and there sample of books created by him. The topics are far ranging and include philosophy, poetry, short stories, and various architectural projects.
