'Contacts' [novel] (1964-1965) (unpublished)

Two complete drafts, each 170 leaves, typescript and carbon typescript, in burgundy cardboard covers, Apr 1964 to May 1965. An extract from this unpublished novel 'Contacts' was published in Under Twenty-five: An Anthology, edited by Anne O'Donovan, Jayne Sanderson and Shane Porteous. Brisbane: Jacaranda Press, 1966. 34-36. The extract is a heavily edited version of leaves 99-117 of the drafts in this subseries. Newspaper cuttings of reviews of this extract are also in this subseries.

Bliss [screenplay] and Bliss [motion picture]

This series consists of drafts, story boards , screenplay proofs, script amendments, and filming schedules, timings, etc. for the film Bliss. Also includes correspondence. Bliss was the winner of the Best Screenplay Adapted from Another Source (Australian Film Institute Awards), 1985.

Bliss [novel] (1981)

This subseries consists of revised drafts, working notes, index cards, proofs and correspondence relating to the novel Bliss. This novel had several working titles: 'Heaven's door', 'A garden at the end of the world', 'On the edges of the empire', 'A wonderful fool' and 'Waiting for the Barbarians'. Bliss was published in Australia by University of Queensland Press in 1981. This was Peter Carey's first novel and won the Miles Franklin Award 1981 and New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards 1982.

'A schoolboy prank' [screenplay] (unpublished)

Unpublished play script titled 'A schoolboy prank by Peter Carey. An adaptation for the stage', 9 leaves, undated. The short story A schoolboy prank was published in Carey's short story collections War Crimes (University of Queensland Press) in 1979 and Collected stories (University of Queensland Press) in 1994.
