This file is comprised of: two spiral notebooks with handwritten notes (one has transcript notes from micro audio cassettes); 9 micro audio cassettes; 91 colour photographs; catalogues; postcards; brochures; correspondence; personal and professional items such as menus, programmes, circulars; 1st draft of short story called 'Territory', 22 leaves with handwritten emendations, 29 Dec 1995. Original folder (discarded) labelled 'Mojave'.

Three drafts of a speech entitled 'Making it up', all of which start 'You have, standing before you, the person who - well, I was a teenager, I admit but still...'. One draft is incomplete with 4 leaves, and the title in the footer says 'Literary Lunch Spech, Tax Insp. Launch'; the next has 6 unnumbered leaves; and the last has in the footer the title 'FDU Speech', page leaves numbered 1-10, 19 Oct 1992.

Two copies of the speech at a literary lunch for the launch of The tax inspector, 5 leaves each, one copy with handwritten emendations, 1991.

Bound copy of the thesis by Maria Luisa Bertocci entitled 'Le storie di un liar, ovvero la narrative di Peter Carey'. Accompanied by a letter from Bertocci to Carey (dated 7 Jan 1994) and an abstract of the work in English entitled 'The stories of a liar: Peter Carey's work'.

16 folders of typescript, with handwritten emendations, and printouts of Carey's computer directory listing files for sections and chapters of the novel. 1st - 12th drafts of the novel. Carey's labeling on the folders indicates that writing began on 3 Feb 1988. The 11th draft is dated 20 Nov 1990. Drafts have extensive handwritten emendations. Some of the 9th and 10th draft material includes extensive handwritten notes probably by Alison Summers.
