A book of detachable membership cards for Heart of a Nation, containing unissued cards and the stubs of cards issued to members. The stubs record the names and contact details of members. The file also contains one blank page with Heart of a Nation letterhead, and two copies of an advertisement for Heart of a Nation published in the Gold Coast Bulletin on 4 June 1988.

Do you love me? [short story] (1975)

Typescript draft with emendations, photocopied, 13 leaves (one blank), A3 sized paper. Included is issue number 15 (1975) of Tabloid Story where the short story was published. The emendations on the photocopy match the final published version.

Dental School, University of Queensland

The University of Queensland Faculty of Dentistry was formed in 1935 and was located at various locations throughout the city including Turbot Street. In the early 1960s there was a desire to have the Dental School transferred from its location in Turbot Street to the St. Lucia campus with Birrell writing a report in favour of this is in 1964. However the Australian Universities Commission did not support this idea. Rather they offered money to extend the Turbot Street facilities and to use space within the Physiology Building to house preclinical training. The new dental school at St. Lucia campus was not built.

It is based on the short story Life and death in the south side pavilion by Peter Carey first published in short story collection, The fat man in history (1974). Comprises 8 typescript drafts.
