Included in notebook are copies of parodies, comic verse, riddles. Included in diary are transcriptions by Emma of her brother's diary of a voyage from Ireland to Queensland in the ship Sir William Wallace, June-Sept 1882, and another diary written by her other brother Fred W. Hewson from Ireland to Queensland aboard the ship Merkara, Oct-Dec 1882.

Typescript transciption from Asiatic Journal and Monthly Register for British India and Its Dependencies (vol. [10], issue [39], pages 244-248) of a letter from 'An Old Indian Officer', written 25 Jan 1833, commenting on an article that appeared in the Dec 1832 'Asiatic Journal' opposing the penal settlement at Moreton Bay. The writer is in favour of the settlement for the assistance it may afford shipwrecked mariners.
