Consists of correspondence between Father Edward Leo Hayes, his sister Mary and his niece Jean as well as philatelic ephemera, unpublished poetry and artwork. The collection also contains academic robes worn by Father Hayes when he received an honorary Masters of Arts degree from the University of Queensland and a whiskey bottle from by General Douglas McArthur.

This file comprises 51 letters from Father Hayes to his sister Mary. Many of the letters have first day cover envelopes. Envelopes are often addressed to 'Mrs A. O. Brown' or 'Mrs Ambrose Brown'. Hayes frequently finishes with 'your loving brother'. There is an envelope with a newspaper cutting, another with an invitation and one with a mass list.

This file comprises 7 letters. Two letters with first day issues envelopes are circulars from the Royal Geographical Society of Australia (Queensland), dated 1955 and 1957. Two letters from E Galvin with first day cover envelopes, 1960 and 1963. Two handwritten letters from 'Nell' with souvenir envelopes, dated 1963. One handwritten letter from Nell to Mary mentioning enclosing the letter in a Henry Lawson first day of issue envelope; attached a Henry Lawson envelope addressed to Jean Brown, postmarked 1949.

This file comprises correspondence from Father Edward Leo Hayes to his niece, Jean Marie Brown. There are 63 letters many with first day of issue envelopments. Additionally there are three postcards, some newspaper cuttings, ephemera, paper napkins, letters addressed to Father Hayes from others attached with a letter to Jean.

Content consists of first day cover/first day issue envelopes, and cards. Most are addressed to 'Mrs Ambrose Brown' (Mary Zilla Hayes). There are a few addressed to Father Edward Leo Hayes and Jean Marie Brown. Also included are a number of envelopes containing stamps.

Unpublished works

Volume bound with string, covers and tape on spine. Contains ten unpublished typescript poems and two essays. Written in Crows Nest, Queensland between 1937 and 1943 by an unidentified poet [possibly J. Tholan - signature indecipherable]. One poem "Jubiliee Greeting" is dedicated Father Edward Leo Hayes on the occasion of his Silver Jubilee, 24th November, 1943.

Material includes academic dress worn by Father Edward Leo Hayes when he received an honorary Master of Arts in 1967, a whiskey bottle presented to Father Hayes by General Douglas McArthur and an illuminated and illustrated poem by artist Ella Lilian Pedersen.
