Papers relating to overseas trip to Fiji

Kath Walker was a delegate at the Fifth Conference of the Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies (ACLALS) from 3-8 January 1980, at University of South Pacific, Suva, Fiji. This file includes the programmes for the official opening, bus time-table for special trips during the conference, a list of delegates, abstracts, notices, notes, articles of association, business cards, a map of University of South Pacific, and names and addresses collected by Kath Walker.

Moongalba: foundation and historical documents

Material connected to Shadow sister [motion pitcture]

This file includes letters, flyers, media releases, story outline for film, reservation forms to 'attend the screening of the film and meet Kath Walker' and newspaper cuttings relating to the film Shadow Sister. Shadow Sister : a film biography of Aboriginal Poet Kath Walker, M.B.E. was produced and directed by Frank Heinmans of Cinetel Productions. The film premiered at the Sydney Opera House in November 1977 to 6000 people, mostly school children.

'Unpublished playscripts and stories'

The original folder had two titles 'Unpublished playscripts and stories'. Some scripts have multiple copies, some have drafts, and some have annotations. It contains the following scripts: 'Bora. Initiation' (3 drafts), 'Civilised savages: one act play', 'Old Mick' (3 drafts, one incomplete), 'Playabout corroboree', 'Tail of platypus' (3 drafts), 'Tea party. Review.' (2 drafts), and 'You can't trust no one no how'. The last item is a photocopied typescript (8 leaves) with 'Tape excerpt (verbatim)' written across the top of every page. The 'interviewee' is an Australian Aboriginal giving a commentary on the 'Police' ; 'What is an Aboriginal?'; and 'Discrimination'.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are warned that this resource mentions cultural ceremony and Bora initiation. It may contain images, transcripts or names of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples now deceased. It may also contain historically and culturally sensitive words, terms, and descriptions.
