History
Hecate Press is the publisher for the Journal 'Hecate : an interdisciplinary journal of women's liberation' which began in 1975, International Women's Year. In the first issue the aims of the editorial policy were made clear: 'As feminists and socialists, we view this journal as a means of providing a forum for discussing, at a fairly theoretical level, issues relating to the liberation of women'. It has played a significant part in the development of feminist criticism in Australia and continues to publish on topics such as race, class, and literary and feminist politics.
Founding and ongoing editor of Hecate' is Professor Carole Ferrier from the School of English, Media Studies and Art History at The University of Queensland. It is published twice yearly by Hecate Press in association with the Research Group for Women, Gender, Culture and Social Change Research in the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland.
While its focus is on publishing the 'Hecate' journal, Hecate Press has also published occasional books and the journal 'Australian Women's Book Review'.
