History
Edwin James Hayes was born in Brisbane on 23 March 1918. He attended Saint Ignatius' College and art classes at Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, then returned to Brisbane to attend the Brisbane Central Technical College, now known as the Queensland University of Technology. From 1935 to 1938 he was articled to E.M. Ford of Brisbane practice Chambers and Ford. In 1939 Hayes went to Sydney to work with E.L. Sodersteen and passed the Board of Architects exam, after which he returned to his position at Chambers and Ford in Brisbane. Following army service in World War Two, he co-founded Hayes and Scott with Campbell Scott. Hayes retired in 1984. He died in Brisbane on 7 January 2007.
