Biographical history

Alfred Dampier, actor-manager, was born 28 February 1843 at Horsham, Sussex, England. He arrived in Melbourne, Australia in 1873. Formed his own theatre company which was a notable part of the Australian theatrical scene. Many of his plays were either adaptions by colleagues or his own adaptions, often of Australian drama. He married Katherine Alice Russell in 1866. She and her children often appeared in his theatrical productions. Alfred Dampier died on 23 May 1908.
