Administrative history
A conference in Adelaide in 1958 resulted in the formation of the Federal Council for Aboriginal Advancement. In 1964, the organisation was renamed to include Torres Strait Islanders in the title. Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders (FCAATSI) was formed to advance the rights of Aboriginal people. The Council included Aboriginal Advancement organisations, unions and church organisations. One of the Council's most successful campaigns was establishing the 1967 Referendum. In March 1978 FCAATSI changed its name to the National Aboriginal and Islander Liberation Movement (NAILM) but the organisation never met. It disbanded that same year after the federal government cut funding.

Scope and content
Typescript leaflet appealing for a 'yes' vote on 27 May 1967 as part of the Referendum to amend the Constitution to remove references within the Constitution that discriminate against Aboriginal peoples. Provides information on some of the proposed amendments, such as the inclusion of Aboriginal peoples in the census and the ability for the federal government to create and enact laws for Aboriginal peoples. Front page features a black and white print of a photograph of a pair of children, possibly Aboriginal. Verso features another print of a group of girls, possibly Aboriginal. A statement at the foot of the verso states the leaflet was "authorised by Mrs. Kath Walker, Qld. Secretary, Federal Council for Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders (FCAA) and Secretary, Qld. Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Islanders (QCAATI)".
