Queensland Peace Committee for International Co-operation and Disarmament (1959-). Known as the Peace Committee. Initially the Queensland Sponsoring Committee for the Australia-New Zealand Congress for Disarmament and International Co-operation.
Objectives - To seek world peace through international co-operation and total world wide disarmament, subject to effective inspection and control.

Notes: The Sponsoring Committee was formed to organize a Queensland contribution to the congress held in Melbourne November 6-13 1959 (also known as the Melbourne Congress). After the Congress it became a Melbourne Congress Continuing Committee. When this became the Peace Committee it also absorbed most of the personnel and equipment of the Australian Assembly for Peace. Queensland Association Branches existed at various times in Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville, Maryborough, Toowoomba and Ipswich and Brisbane suburban branches appeared in Norman Park, the Western Suburbs, the Northern Suburbs, Inala-Darra, West End and Wynnum. The Peace Committee was associated with a number of other bodies including the Waterfront Peace Committee, the Building Workers' Industrial Union, the Seamen's Union Peace Committee, World Youth Forum Preparatory Group (1961), Youth Campaign for Peace (1963), Ex-Services Human Rights Association (1967), Hiroshima Day Committees, Aldermaston Consultative Committee and the Vietnam Action Committee (1966).
