Elwyn Flint completed honours in Modern Languages and Literature in 1927, and was appointed as a reader in his department, before becoming a priest in 1938. He was an army chaplain and intelligence officer before being discharged in 1946. He was appointed as a junior lecturer at the University of Queensland and eventually senior lecturer in 1958.
