History
Elwyn Flint completed honours in Modern Languages and Literature in 1927, and was appointed as a reader in his department, before becoming a priest in 1938. He was an army chaplain and intelligence officer before being discharged in 1946. He was appointed as a junior lecturer at the University of Queensland and eventually senior lecturer in 1958. Flint's intense interest in language variation led him to record the variety of languages spoken in Queensland and parts of Asia and Indonesia. He published the results of his research.
