Biographical history
William Gall was born in Ipswich in 1867. He joined the public service in 1885, beginning in the Colonial Secretary's Department. He transferred to the Audit Office in 1894, and then to the Home Secretary's Department in 1903 In 1913, he was appointed Under-Secretary for Home Affairs and Protector of Aborigines. Gall was Acting Comptroller-General of Prisons from 1926. He retired in 1934. He was a speculative investor and was interested in Queensland history.

Harold John James Sparks was born on 24 May 1897. He attended the Rockhampton Christian Brothers school. He began study at the University of Queensland on 7 March 1925, although he did not receive his degree from this university. He was one of the first to donate and be recorded in the University of Queensland Book of Student Benefactors.

Forrest's private library of Australian books ; 3 letters give notice of monthly meetings of the Oxley Library Committee. Also one typescript circular letter giving notice of monthly meeting.
