Clem Lack (1900-1972) was a Queensland journalist, historian, author and public servant. Born in Bundaberg, Queensland, on 19 December 1900. He began his journalistic career as a cadet on the 'Gympie Times' then moved to reporting for the 'Brisbane Courier' (later the 'Courier Mail'), the 'Sunday Mail', 'Telegraph' and the Melbourne 'Age'. He obtained his Diploma of Journalism in 1928 and a Bachelor of Arts in 1934 from the University of Queensland. From 1935 to 1970 he intermittently lectured on journalism at the University of Queensland. In 1948 he joined the Chief Secretary's Department in the public relations bureau which he then headed from 1953 until his retirement in December 1966. Lack became a member of the Royal Historical Society of Queensland (R.H.S.Q.) in 1944 and edited the journal of Royal Historical Society of Queensland for some time. In 1973 the R.H.S.Q. inaugurated an annual oration named in honour of Clem Lack.
