Biographical history
John Petrie Biggs was born on 17 June 1933. He was educated at the Church of England Grammar School, followed by the University of Queensland, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Law. He was articled to Alexander MacGillivray from 1954 to 1956. He was admitted on 18 December 1958. He began working for his father, Ernest Eldridge Biggs (also known as E.E. Biggs) (1905-1980), at Biggs & Biggs, a firm established by his grandfather, Thomas William Biggs (also known as T.W. Biggs) (1873-1943). John Petrie Biggs was made Senior Partner on 1 July 1976.
Biggs was involved in sports throughout his studies and career. As a student he joined the University of Queensland Cricket Club. He has been a player or an official since 1951, represented the University of Queensland in cricket, one of UQ Cricket Club's longest-serving officials, and a life member of the club. He also founded the Sunnybank Rugby Club.
After John Biggs retired from Biggs & Biggs in 1989, he spent twenty years compiling newspaper cuttings and collecting scorecards dating back to when the University of Queensland Crick Club began in 1912.
