Biographical history
John Edward Sache [fl. 1865-1882] had studios in Calcutta, Lucknow and the hill station of Nainital, the headquarters for the Governor of the North West Provinces during the summer months. Lucknow was one of the cities devastated by the Indian Revolt of 1857 and attracted many tourists. He recorded the Mughal architecture of Delhi, Agra and Sikandra as well as dramatic studies of the mountains of the Himalayas, in particular, the Pindar Range, Kasmir and Srinigar.
