Biographical history
Percy Brier was born on 7 June 1885 at North Pine (Petrie). Educated at Yeronga State School until 1898, attended the Brisbane Technical College at night. He was the first Queenslander to secure an overseas scholarship to the Royal College of Music and an Associateship of Organists. He established a teaching practice and was prominent as the Church Organist and Choir Master of the Baptist City Tabernacle. He was a long-term President of the Musical Association and Music Examiner. He married Eva Baynes (1881-1943) on 1 July 1915. They had two sons: Meryn Fiddimon Brier (1918-1920) and Eric Blyth Brier (1921-2002). Eric Brier married Hallett Florence Meek (1923?-2015) and they had three sons: Hugh, Richard and David. Eric Brier provided a gift to establish a prize in the memory of his father after his death on 9 May 1970.
