Biographical history

Robert Percy Cummings was born on 11 September 1900 at Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. Cummings took evening classes from 1916 at the Central Technical College obtaining his Diploma of Architecture in 1923. Cummings won the Queensland Wattle League's architectural scholarship in 1924; in 1928 obtained a Diploma of Architecture from the Architectural Association School, London; was awarded the Rome scholarship in architecture in 1927; returned to Brisbane in 1930. Cummings was appointed founding Professor of Architecture at the University of Queensland in 1949. From 1936 he was an architectural partner of Frederick Lucas, in the firm Lucas and Cummings. He died on 27 September 1989.
