Biographical history

George Henry Male Addison was born on 23 March 1857 in Llanelly, Wales. He studied architecture in London. Addison immigrated to South Australia. Married Emily Alice Maude in 1884 with whom he had four children: Lily Isabel Maude (1885-1968), Edward james (1887-1956), George Frederick (1889-1985) and Edith May (1892-?). G.H.M. Addison was an architect and painter working in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane between 1884 and 1922. In partnership as Terry, Oakden and Addison / Oakden, Addison and Kemp, architects in Melbourne and Brisbane, 1886-1897; Addison and Corrie, architects and valuers in Brisbane, 1898-1905; Addison and Hassall, architects in Brisbane, 1906-1907. Formed partnership with son George Frederick Addison, G.M.H. Addison and Son in 1919. He was a chairman of the Brisbane Art Gallery. He died on 6 February 1922.
