Born in Bundaberg in 1925, Gordon Donald Spearritt was appointed to The University of Queensland as a lecturer in 1958. As conductor of the University Madrigal Singers (1952-72) he made sixty ABC broadcasts and gave several public concerts. He served as an examiner for AMEB for many years, and is well known for his books on elementary music theory.

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, on 9 November 1907, Franz Holford moved to Australia in the late 1930s after having studied in Paris and at Oxford University with Alfred Cortot (piano), Jack Westrip, Hans Bekker and Sir Hamilton Harty. He composed works in a variety of styles, including a piano concerto, two symphonic works, a cello sonata and vocal works. His music has been performed in England and elsewhere by Evelyn Rothwell, Mary Murdoch and John Champ. His interest in the development of Australian music led Holford to found the Australian Journal of Music, The Canon, in 1948. He continued as editor through its seventeen years of publication He was further involved in Australian music through his editorial work for the music publishing house, J. Albert & Son. Franz Holford died in Brisbane on 5 December, 1994 [Information from Australian Music Centre).
