Biographical history

Born Albert Barrie Pittock on 12 January 1938 in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia. Attended Camberwell High School then the University of Melbourne. Worked as a climate and environmental scientist. Held a position at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation's (CSIRO) Aspendale Laboratory within the Marine and Atmospheric Research division from 1965 to 1999. Retired in 1999 and became a CSIRO Honorary Fellow. That same year awarded the Australian Government Public Service Medal. Also held a position in 1966 as Convenor for the Legislative Reform Committee of the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders (FCAATSI). An activist for Indigenous Land Rights and similar social justice causes. Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to Australian Indigenous communities in 2019. Married Diana Pittock and together they had three sons: Jamie, Matthew and Chris Pittock. Died on 3 October 2024.

A paper, duplicated typescript, eleven pages, about the history of the formation of the National Tribal Council. Also details Pittock's experiences in his role as Convenor of the Legislative Reform Committee of the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders (FCAATSI), and attending the thirteenth annual Conference of the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders in Canberra in 1970.
