Biographical history

Colin Bingham, born in Richmond, Queensland, had a long and distinguished career as a journalist and administrator in the newspaper world. In 1940, Bingham joined the Australian Associated Press in London and served as a war correspondent until the end of 1949, became leader-writer on the Sydney Morning Herald 1949-57, associate editor 1957-60 and editor 1961-65. He wrote under the pen name of Grapho when on the staff of the Brisbane Telegraph. He published several books of poetry and three books of essays. His autobiography, 'The Beckoning Horizon', was published in 1983.
