History
Designed by Atkinson & McLay, the Empire Theatre was located at 176 Albert Street, between Queen & Elizabeth Streets, Brisbane. It opened 14 January 1911 and was planned as a venue for vaudeville in Brisbane. Featured artists included: Ted Holland's "New Vaudeville Entertainers", Stiffy and Mo & Company, Con Moreni's "Revusical Comedy Company" with Moon and Morris and Vaude and Verne, and George Ward's "Snapshot Review", Alec Kellaway, Nellie Dean, Sid Beck, George Wallace & Gladys Moncrieff. Also known as Fuller's Empire, the theatre was remodelled in 1933 and reopened as the St James Theatre, then The Paris in 1965. The building was demolished in 1986 as part of the Myer Centre development.
