Val Edwards was the executor and niece of Philip and Mary Ward. Various documents and accounts of Banka Banka Station and the Wards who owned it give her name as Val, Valmai, Valmae, and Valerie.

Banka Banka cattle station is almost 100 km north of Tennant Creek, Northern Territory. It was bought in 1940 by Philip (Ted) Ward and Mary Alice Ward (nee McEntyre). Ted Ward died on 17 March 1959. Valmae Edwards (née, Reid, wife of Donald Leslie Edwards) and Mary Ward were executors of Philip Wards estate. Probate was granted on 5 September 1961.
