History

Rev Guy Henry Darke was born in Surrey, England in 1904. He was educated at the University of Durham and the Dorchester Missionary College. He worked as a missionary in Accra, West Africa, from 1929-31 and, while there, was ordained a priest of the Anglican Church. He moved to Australia in 1933, holding the position of priest in charge of the Torres Strait Mission until 1936. From 1936 to 1938, he was priest in charge of St Paul's Mission, Moa Island. From 1938 to 1949, he served the parishes of Sarina and Ingham in the diocese of North Queensland. From 1949 to 1972, he was Rector of Christ Church, Yeronga. He died in 1979.
