History

Campaign Against Moral Persecution (CAMP) (1971-). Also known as the Camp Club.
Objectives - To promote the principle that all people have a right to self-fulfillment regarding their sexual preference and can make the same positive contribution in the quest for betterment of society and happiness for all; to fight for the repeal of all laws relating to homosexual behaviour; to campaign against all forms of legal and social discrimination against homosexuals; to provide counselling for homosexuals; to maintain a social centre where homosexuals and others can meet in congenial surroundings.
Notes: By 1973-74 the social function of CAMP predominated over political action but in the late 1970's it assisted in the development of an alliance of gay liberation groups, the Gay Action Alliance, with which it is still closely associated. The lesbian group Patchwork is part of CAMP.
