History

Australian Littoral Society (1972- ). Previously known as the Queensland Littoral Society (1965-1972).
Objectives - To educate the public in the principles and values of effective conservation; to provide scientific advice to the government, private organizations and teaching bodies; to save the Barrier Reef; to investigate water pollution in Australia; to study and protect wetland areas; to encourage and assist artificial reef projects; to discourage and oppose wanton destruction and/or over-exploitation of aquatic resources and to protect endangered habitats, animals, and unique areas. Notes: The Australian Littoral Society is based in Queensland. The Society is a member body of the Queensland Conservation Council. It became the Australian Marine Conservation Society in 1995.
